Hello and welcome to the final reveal of our 6-week room makeover project! We’ve completely transformed a 10-year-old girl’s room from drab, overlooked, and over-cluttered, to an absolutely beautiful girly retreat.
Before we dive in to the photos, we have to say (as always) an enormous thank you to Linda, the creator of the One Room Challenge who invites guest participants like us to show our progress over 6 weeks to all of the internet. It is truly the fun and accountability of this bi-annual event that gets any credit for either of us actually finishing a photo-worthy project in our OWN houses. So thank you Linda!!
Let’s have a quick peek back at where we started…
So very sadsies. But no more! Drum roll please…here is the room today!
Sooo different right?? It’s truly hard to believe it’s the same space. Let’s take you on the tour.
Everything started with the Iconic Leopard wallpaper print from Schumacher. In the linen colorway, it is bold and subtle all at the same time, and the ultimate feminine and sassy backdrop for this space. Did we contemplate using it on an accent wall only? No. No we did not.
The next piece in our puzzle was the Vivienne floral pillow by Stagg Design. It had the perfect combination of colors to be our jumping off point for the rest of the room scheme. The furniture paints, drapes, and bedding all pull from it.
Finally, large-scale art prints from Inslee Fariss flank the bed. They’re modern, sophisticated, and sweet, just like our 10-year-old “client.”
My daughter’s #1 request for her room was a little hideaway closet nook, where she could have a reading bench. She’s such a little squirrel, this was a really fitting request. And it’s so darling, I was all too happy to oblige.
You may notice, as you look around the room, that there is actually a TON of storage in here. We worked really hard to squeeze in as much as we could and still produce a pretty design. There are two full dressers, two shelving units, EIGHT large bins, and three buckets. Oh, and four under-bed bins as well! (Hence the queen-sized bedding on the twin-sized bed, which perfectly kisses the floor and hides anything she’s got under there). I’m *hopeful* that this will be adequate for her hoarder tendencies- and I fear not!! But seriously, a room this pretty cannot be drowned in clutter, so we are definitely going to work on her.
The bookcase was striking to me in a milestone kind of way. I feel like we’ve only recently turned the corner from having very little kids to having bigger little kids, and this furniture piece is evidence of the new era. There’s just no way you can put a brass and glass etagere in a toddler room, you know? But when your daughter is 10 (and maybe more like 30 on the internal maturity scale), you can get away with it! Nevertheless, it’s FOR SURE anchored to the wall. Aaaand she’s got elaborate plans to fill it with Legos post-photoshoot. (Sorry, just gotta keep it real!)
OK, can we talk again about this dresser color? I am so in love! It is Inchyra Blue by Farrow & Ball. It’s especially pretty against the warmth of the Serena & Lily Lanai mirror, and I like the contrast of styles too- the formal and modern together. The other fun thing about the mirror is that it has a bit of a 70’s vibe, as do the bookcase and the chandelier. Turns out, the wallpaper design dates to the 70’s. Normally, I’m much more a pre-war enthusiast, but I’ve really embraced the spirit of the decade this time around.
And that’s a wrap! Credit for these beautiful photos goes to Emily Kennedy Photography. Thank you Emily for being so lovely to work with and capturing the feel of this room so well. And thanks to all of YOU for following along! Be sure to go see how all of the other ORC Guest Participant rooms turned out…but fair warning, you’re about to get lost on the internet for a loooong time. There is so. much. pretty.
xx
