Yesterday we caught you up to speed on the progression of our Chantilly House project – from hole-in-the ground to ready-for-final-inspection. In case you missed it, click here to see where we started. Today, we have final post-construction photos to show you! We couldn’t be more thrilled with how this gorgeous home turned out. It is only half of the equation to select beautiful finishes- there needs to be a skilled builder who can craft them into reality. So a huge shout out goes to Ben, Kelly, Laura (yes, another one!) and the Timberline Homes team, for making our vision come to life, even across all the miles from Chicago to North Carolina. (That took a LOT of patience on their part, for sure, so they’ve basically earned saint status at this point).
Because we are nerds for this kind of thing, we’re also going to share our mood boards with you throughout the house. There is something so rewarding about looking back and seeing how an abstract design can translate into a tangible home.
One of the first decisions (and possibly the hardest) our homeowners had to face was choosing an exterior scheme. We presented them with three options:
After much wrestling, they chose Scheme 1- a classic and timeless combination of soft taupe siding with crisp white trim.
And today, six months later, here is the completed exterior!
Since this is a true Southern porch, the door was located to allow for a large hanging porch swing on the left side, and there is plenty of room on the right for a row of rocking chairs. Entering the front door, guests are greeted by a large and welcoming foyer with the most beautiful 3-level staircase.
To the left you can just see a peek at the floor of the downstairs powder room/ guest bath. Here was our mood board:
The homeowner’s favorite color is pink, so we knew we had to sneak it in somewhere. The shade we chose (Farrow & Ball Pink Ground) was a very sophisticated version that doesn’t translate too young or too feminine. Ok, well, maybe too feminine. But it’s fabulous!
Back out into the foyer, the hallway leads you right into the open-concept kitchen, family room, and dining space. There are so many windows, the rooms are flooded with light. All of the white cabinetry, and soft white walls, help keep that light and airy feeling while darker floors ground the design. Accent lighting in warm brass pulls out the warmth of the floors, and mixing metals keeps the lighting suite eclectic. Our client loves antique decor, so we gave the home a vintage feel, while still making sure it stayed really modern and classic. You’ll see several juxtapositions of style- for example, an almost-shabby chic light fixture in the same room as modern geometric cabinet hardware.
We especially can’t wait to see these two views- the island and the sink- all styled up with barstools and finishing touches. What a dream space to begin decorating! The four grey bamboo-back bar stools from our moodboard were waiting to be unboxed as this photo was snapped.
On the other side of the kitchen, there is a butler’s pantry and mudroom. In the pantry, we wanted to bring in some color in the cabinetry, for a dramatic and unexpected moment in a tiny spot. We had originally planned to use a patterned tile in this area as well, not realizing that in North Carolina you can have wood floors in your mudroom! That would certainly not fly with all the snow and slush we track through these rooms in Chicago.
Heading upstairs, you can see the white walls and trim continue throughout the hallway and bedrooms. You can also see a peek at the cute laundry room floor at the top of the stairs.
The last two rooms we want to show you are the upstairs bathrooms- the Master Bath and the Upstairs Guest Bath.
The Master Bath had to have a split-personality, as they usually do, because two people get ready here every day. While we felt ok about indulging some of the more feminine details in the powder room (hey, hubby got navy cabinets in the butler’s so it’s all fair and even), here we wanted to strike as strong of a masculine tone as we did a glamorous one. The pebble shower floor, linear and modern shower tile, and rich wood vanity are the “his” elements in the room. On the “hers” side of the coin, we have brass statement mirrors and a crystal chandelier. Everything else, like the polished chrome faucets, marble hex floor, and classic sconces, help beautifully shape the timeless character of this home.
Upstairs guest bath. Can we call dibs? Can we also just take a moment to freak out over that floor tile?! It took the poor installers four full days to piece in the mosaic border, but oh my goodness, SO worth it. In a house full of “favorite” rooms, this guest bath may just win our top affections. The vanity is a little more green-blue in real life that these pictures show. It’s “Blue Note” by Benjamin Moore.
LI will actually be flying down to North Carolina this week to continue on the furniture & styling process (sooo much easier in person) and I’ll bet you can guess where she’s camping out. Stay tuned over the coming weeks for peeks at how we help our clients turn this gorgeous house into their home!
xx
