Welcome back to Week 3 (half way!!) of our One Room Challenge Tween Girl’s Room. We are SO excited to show you how the wallpaper turned out! I wish I had some progress pictures from the day. Normally I like to make our installers super uncomfortable by photographing them paparazzi-style as they work, but on the day of this install I had appointments all day. So I left the room with completely blank white walls, and magically came home to this!
I’m not going to lie to you, I screamed out loud. It was embarrassing for everyone. But it is soooooo pretty!! It’s dizzying, and dramatic, and soft and classic and romantic and just. right. for our little inhabitant. I could not be happier.
Thankfully, the “client” was thrilled as well. We immediately set to holding up bedding fabric and staging stuffed animal glamour shots.
Princess Catarina (Get it? Cat + Ballerina?) is shown here lounging on a genuine sheep skin rug, against a backdrop of linen drapery fabric.
One of the coolest things that professional wallpaper installers can do that normal human people can’t do is wrap things like register grates and light switches in the wallpaper. I was on the fence about this (and had the internal battle in the powder room too) because it feels maybe a little old-school and stuffy. I usually see plain, non-papered hardware in more modern installations. But, when on the fence, it’s best to just let the installer do it, because it would be ridiculously easy to change your mind later and swap them out with a plain grate or switch plate. On the reverse, it would be ridiculously impossible to paper them yourself after the fact.
How cool is that?! In hindsight I’m so glad we did it, because it literally makes the lights and outlet covers “camouflaged.” And what could be more appropriate for cheetah print walls? In fact, scroll back up and play a little game of “I-Spy” and see if you can spot an outlet cover to the bottom left of the window. So fun!
Next up we’re going to work on the closet. Our daughter’s #1 request for this room was that her closet have a little bunk bed/ reading nook built into it. Yes, most of her dresses will have to live in my closet for the foreseeable future. But it’s going to be so cute, I don’t care. Progress update on the closet (hopefully!) next week!
Don’t forget to visit the rest of the One Room Challenge Guest Participants, and we’ll see you back here for Week 4 next Thursday!
xx
