Well, calling this post “overdue” is a ridiculous overstatement. If this post were an unpaid parking ticket, we’d be in jail by now. But, as they say, better late than never…and we’re FINALLY sharing all the photos of our Brickstreet House project, a from-the-ground-up new build for a darling young family.
Photos by the wonderful Emily Kennedy Photography.
Living Room
Our tour begins in the living room, which is the very first room you see when you walk in the house. And I know we’re not supposed to have favorites, but it’s totally our favorite. We just love the layers in this room!
We did our best to make every room of this house as kid-friendly as possible, because our clients have two little ones. All of the fabrics throughout the house are performance, and in the living room, the gray chairs are super comfy gliders. Many living rooms don’t get used very often, but the gliders turn this into an ideal quiet spot to rock a baby or nurse away from the fray.
Breakfast
In this sunny breakfast nook, we really wanted to let the architectural character stand out, highlighting the half-height wainscoting and show-stopping window. So we kept the furniture simple and functional. The rug is so cute! It’s got this great hobnail texture but it’s indoor-outdoor so no worries about spills.
Family Room
The family room is bright and cozy, again with all kid-friendly fabrics. We can’t get enough of these gorgeous woven chairs but the best part was seeing our client’s little one-year-old happily eating a squeeze applesauce in one!
Playroom
Next to the family room there is a great little playroom that can be closed off with sliding doors. We found an inspiration photo of the door design and love how they turned out in a soft grey paint. Goodbye mess! (Not that these kids are ever messy…) Also, the “cheeky” bunny prints get us every time!
Kitchen
The kitchen is truly a show stopper with the glossy subway tile going all the way to the ceiling. We love how it has a handmade look to it.
Dining Room
Heading out of the kitchen through the butler’s pantry (see a peek at that cute tile backsplash in there??) takes you to the dining room and back to the front entry of the house. In this room, our client had an existing table and hutch so we chose a rug, window treatments, paint, light fixture & chairs to layer around it.
Powder Room
Staircases
The stairwells in this home are rooms unto themselves. They’re so beautiful! The combination of natural window light and airy finishes makes them feel so huge and inviting. The wool runner adds just the right amount of texture and pattern and will be super durable. The stairs go from the basement all the way to the attic. In the photo below, you can see the view from the open attic overlooking the staircase and one of our favorite lanterns.
Kids’ Rooms
We can’t take too much credit for these darling kids rooms! Unlike the family and living rooms where we started from scratch, or even the dining or master where we worked with a few existing pieces, in the kids bedrooms our homeowner gets all the cred! All the furnishings and decor came from their previous home, so all we had to choose were light fixtures and window treatments. Didn’t she do an amazing job with these cute spaces??
Kids’ Bath
This bathroom is in serious contention for our favorite room in the house! Our client chose the floor tile so that was our jumping off point. We did a white vanity, rope mirrors and darling star wallpaper from Anthropologie to continue the ethereal hues from the floor. It’s a shared bath that connects both the boy’s and girl’s bedroom so we kept it gender neutral.
Master Bedroom
Here, like the dining room, we mainly layered in around existing furniture. The bed, nightstands, and dresser were all from our clients’ previous home. We decided to stay with a neutral palette in this room and just LOVE the sketchbook botanical wallpaper on that back wall. You can’t see in photos but in the right light it has a hint of metallic in the drawings. Bedding, shades and lamps continue the look. After photos we added a woven trunk to the end of the bed and it finishes it off perfectly!

Front Entry
And our tour concludes with us back at the front entry! You can’t see it but there are actually three Darlana lanterns in this hallway in a row, and it’s just spectacular. And after seeing photos we switched the runner to a different vintage piece with blues instead of reds that is a little bit bigger. Never too late for tweaks. Or for blog posts, apparently! 🙂 Thanks for sticking with us! And huge thanks to our amazing clients for letting us dream up this beautiful home with you, and to Emily Kennedy for capturing it so perfectly.
